European pipe manufacturer Tenaris is looking to hire 250 workers to boost production at its welded mill in northeast Arkansas.
The company, headquartered in Luxembourg, said its mill in Hickman is ramping up production in response to lower prices for hot rolled coil and higher demand for domestically-made pipe. The facility will be steadily increasing capacity and volume for a range of products in the coming months.
Tenaris (NYSE: TS) has been expanding in the U.S. since late 2020, but a market downturn led the company to reduce activity at the Hickman plant. The company said employees were cross-trained during that period to improve their skills in different areas of operation.
Now, with favorable market conditions, it's the "right time for a meaningful restart of welded production" at the facility, said Luca Zanotti, Tenaris U.S. President.
Zanotti said in a news release that although pressures persist from supply chain disruptions and the COVID-19 pandemic, the company's outlook is positive.
"We remain uniquely positioned, leading a dynamic and fast paced scale up of our domestic operations, now with welded production contributing on a greater level to our integrated U.S. network of mills and service centers,” he said.
Tenaris is offering a signing bonus between $1,500 and $2,000 for new hires.
The hiring push is another economic win for Mississippi County. Last week, U.S. Steel announced that it had chosen Osceola as the site of a new $3 billion steel mill, a project that will create hundreds of jobs and position the region for more growth.
